Unrequited Love?
Kaijou and Seirin had just had their first practice match, which was shaping up to be a tradition of sorts. This time, Kaijou had gone to Seirin. The gym was nice, newer then Kaijou's but maybe not as big.
He was breathing heavily, but smiling broadly. It always felt good to play, even if it was just a practice match and they weren't going all out. After all, he wanted to keep some of his new tricks up his sleeves, just like he was sure Kagami and Kuroko were hiding some of their new tricks too. This year's match had ended in a draw. Better than last year's practice match, which had ended in Kaijou's loss by two points.
Just thinking about Kuroko made Kise look over to the Seirin team, focusing in on the smaller boy.
For awhile now Kise had realized that he had feelings for Kuroko. Kise had looked up to Kuroko for awhile, but it wasn't really until after the Winter Cup that Kise realized he was probably in love with Kuroko.
He took a towel that one of the first years offered him. "Thanks," he said absently. He scrubbed at his face, his thoughts racing. He had been thinking about Kuroko a lot lately, and seeing him only brought those thoughts back to the surface, only pushed aside when the game had begun. Now with the game over he couldn't focus. The warm glow in his chest that came whenever he thought about Kuroko was back with a vengeance.
The Kaijou team was gathering their things and getting ready to board the bus. He told the first year that he'd be along in a bit and began to head over to the Seirin team.
"Kurokocchi~" he called out. No time like the present, he thought. He didn't know if Kuroko would return his feelings, but he was hopeful. The time Kuroko had cheered him on while he went up against Haizaki stood out in his mind.
"Kurokocchi! You got a minute?"
no subject
His smile looks a little more sly at Kise's revelation. "Oh? Not a bad choice." Spoken as someone who also had a crush on him. "Akashi-kun would make a good boyfriend."
no subject
He didn't know what he expected from telling Kuroko that he started liking Akashi. But that little sly smile wasn't it.
He wasn't sure how he felt about that. But suddenly, pretending he liked Akashi stopped feeling like playing a game and more like lying.
But. But the person he likes doesn't like him back. So he's allowed this. Allowed to pretend to get over Kuroko. Kuroko doesn't need to know. It'd only hurt him and make things awkward between them.
"He would," Kise said. "I don't know if it'll go anywhere because we live so far apart, and he's busy, and I'm busy. If I asked, he'd probably say no for those reasons." He blew out a dramatic sigh. "Dating's hard."
no subject
"Perhaps he can already tell. I always had the feeling he knew I liked him in middle school." Akashi did seem to have an uncanny skill for reading the hearts of others. "It wouldn't hurt to try."
no subject
"You are forbidden from telling him!" Kise yelped, all panicky. Akashi does already know he's faking a crush on him. He also knows Kise has it bad for Kuroko still.
"I'll think about it. If you promise not to play matchmaker!"
no subject
"If you're sure..." He looks mildly dejected.
no subject
"I'm sure," Kise said. "I... well, it's early? Recent. You know what I mean!"
He means that he hadn't been nursing this crush since middle school.
no subject
Said one hundred percent earnestly.
Happy V day
"I'll let you know if I change my mind," Kise promises because he won't change his mind.
He narrows his eyes at Kuroko. "You won't meddle either, will you? No dropping hints. No telling Kagamicchi. Because we all know telling him is like telling Aominecchi."
Actually, hey, that's a way to get away from this subject. "Do you think Kagamicchi and Aominecchi make out after they play streetball together? All that tension and testosterone..."
happy valentine's to you too!!!
"I promise I won't meddle. I think Akashi-kun would be very deft at navigating around it, if I tried."
Kuroko looks thoughtful at the suggestion, sipping at his drink. "I wouldn't be surprised, but they are both rather block-headed." And maybe he would feel a little lonely if his two lights paired off.
<3
Which is why he probably would be a good matchmaker, but still! Kise has this under control. More or less.
"They might be dense, but that wouldn't stop them from sucking face, just from talking about it. Or, you know, making it a relationship or something."
He's half tempted to pull out his phone and text Aomine. "Kagamicchi's pecs are pretty big, and Aominecchi does like a nice chest."
no subject
But he nearly chokes at that last statement, reaching for a napkin and coughing into it.
"That's... one way to appeal to his preference..."
no subject
Kise couldn't help but snicker a bit when Kuroko choked and offered him a napkin before realizing Kuroko had already grabbed one.
"It is; basketball is the other. Kagamicchi's both wrapped up in one." Kise takes a sip of his shake. "Though Kagamicchi's tits probably aren't as soft as a girl's, and that's something Aominecchi likes to go on about, but he's as big of a virgin as the rest of us. So what does he know? I've probably gone further with a girl than he has. As in, they hug me willingly."
no subject
"I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who'd refuse a hug from you," he sighs, thanking Kise's attempt with a nod, even if he didn't need it. "Aomine-kun is vulgar and I'd pity any girl who falls for him." And if Akashi's predictions were anything to go by, poor Momoi... "But he has been coming to Seirin more often and bothering Kagami-kun for one-on-ones, so perhaps you're onto something here."
no subject
But only time will tell. Childhood friends turned lovers is a trope for a reason.
"Aominecchi likes to overcompensate," Kise said matter of factly. "In his attempts to prove his heterosexuality, he's become a complete perv. Once he's comfortable with being bi, I think he'll calm down." He nods at his own sage knowledge. "You might to help Kagamicchi protect his virtue," he said with a wink.
no subject
He punctuates that with a particularly hard sip of vanilla milkshake.
"Besides, it's funnier to watch them stumble around each other, while Aomine-kun tries to figure out it's okay to be attracted to men as well."
no subject
Hey, he's a teenager, he's allowed to be a bit of pervert. And the idea of Kagami and Aomine naked together is a nice picture.
"I guess. Kagamicchi will probably brouch the subject first, and Aominecchi will panic." He tilted his head.
no subject
He looks thoughtful. "I'm not sure if Kagami actually has enough emotional intelligence to be the one to break the status quo."
no subject
He shrugged and hummed in thought. "Well, that may be true, but I think we both know even if Aominecchi realized it, he wouldn't break the ice. Assuming they are having make-outs after their one-on-ones."
Kise is eighty percent sure they are because of how and how much Aomine complains about Kagami in their texts.
"Wanna make a bet?" he asked. "Say, three thousand that Kagamicchi eventually gets sick of the status quo and confronts Aominecchi about it? I mean, there's only so much of Aominecchi's bullshit anyone can take."
no subject
"Very well, bet accepted." And because he's a meddler... "No complaints if I pass on my Wanwan Land tickets to Aomine-kun and suggest that Kagami-kun may have a fear of the mascots."
He taps at his chin, considering. "Unless you'd like them to invite Akashi-kun to a date."
no subject
Anyway, back on track. "Go for it," Kise said. "Neither of us have dogs, so going to a dog park would be kinda pointless. If we were to have an animal-based date, it'd be on horseback. Akashicchi is a closet horse boy."
Actually, that did sound like a nice date. "Though I'm surprised you haven't used them yet. If not with Kagamicchi, then with another person?"
If Kuroko liked someone else, then it'd be easier to get over him. Right? Or maybe Kise's just a masochist.
no subject
"I'm not interested in anyone like that." And let's be real, Kuroko's friend circle does not extend far outside the Miracles and the Seirin Basketball Club.
no subject
He doesn't know why he said that. Mostly to fill the air, he guesses. But in his mind, if Kuroko liked someone, of course, they'd want to date him back!
It's not like his friendship circle's that much bigger. Kaijou's a bigger team, sure, but he only really hangs out with the starters and the first years that follow him around like ducklings, one of which is the twin of one of the starters, and all three are on the bench. Then there are the other Miracles. And, of course, the other models. Though, those friendships could do a one-eighty in a heartbeat. It wasn't that model were shallow, self-centered, and thrived on drama like television made them out to be. It was more they were young, stressed, and often made to feel it was them against the world. Girls got it the worst, but it happened with the boys too.
no subject
"Does it make sense?" He fiddles with his straw again. "Others have commented that it's strange I seem to have zero interest things like that."
no subject
no subject
He takes in his words with a hum. "A girl confessed to me recently. She said she fell in love watching me at the Interhigh. I rejected her, but the other second years said I should've accepted. That it would do me some good to get some dating experience."
