Unrequited Love?

Kaijou and Seirin had just had their first practice match, which was shaping up to be a tradition of sorts. This time, Kaijou had gone to Seirin. The gym was nice, newer then Kaijou's but maybe not as big.

He was breathing heavily, but smiling broadly. It always felt good to play, even if it was just a practice match and they weren't going all out. After all, he wanted to keep some of his new tricks up his sleeves, just like he was sure Kagami and Kuroko were hiding some of their new tricks too. This year's match had ended in a draw. Better than last year's practice match, which had ended in Kaijou's loss by two points.

Just thinking about Kuroko made Kise look over to the Seirin team, focusing in on the smaller boy.

For awhile now Kise had realized that he had feelings for Kuroko. Kise had looked up to Kuroko for awhile, but it wasn't really until after the Winter Cup that Kise realized he was probably in love with Kuroko.

He took a towel that one of the first years offered him. "Thanks," he said absently. He scrubbed at his face, his thoughts racing. He had been thinking about Kuroko a lot lately, and seeing him only brought those thoughts back to the surface, only pushed aside when the game had begun. Now with the game over he couldn't focus. The warm glow in his chest that came whenever he thought about Kuroko was back with a vengeance.

The Kaijou team was gathering their things and getting ready to board the bus. He told the first year that he'd be along in a bit and began to head over to the Seirin team.

"Kurokocchi~" he called out. No time like the present, he thought. He didn't know if Kuroko would return his feelings, but he was hopeful. The time Kuroko had cheered him on while he went up against Haizaki stood out in his mind.

"Kurokocchi! You got a minute?"

Kuroko himself wasn't very into skinship in general, but he grew to tolerate it around Momoi and Kise in particular during their Teikou years. His skinship with Kagami leans more violent, but he believes he is perfectly capable of being cuddly.

"It won't work on me, but feel free to deploy it at a devastating moment for Kagami-kun."

Momoi was an excellent cuddler!

Well, if Kuroko says so, he might use Kagami as a person to hug when he gets homesick.

"You're not nearly as unflappable as you pretend to be." Kise poked him in the uninjured cheek. "You're just really good at hiding it.

Her cuddles were a bit overzealous...

Instead of pouting, he takes another bite of popsicle. "You have Akashi-kun to thank for that."

Nah, they were great!

"He did bring out the best of our abilities back in Teikou." He smiled. "I wonder what it'd be like to play under him again now."

Though Kuroko felt less need to mask his emotions entirely nowadays that he stopped playing in a official capacity, his ability has perhaps been too ingrained in him.

"We played briefly against Jabberwock, but it was very short-lived. I'm sure it'd be more fun now that everyone's even more settled into their basketball."

"Yeah, that was fun, except for the time I thought you were going to get punched."

He licked up some more popsicle juice. It was cool enough that it wasn't melting fast.

He almost said he'd like to do it again, but Kuroko's no longer playing competitively, and he doesn't want to poke at that wound.

"It'll be fun if Kagamicchi and Aominecchi are on the same team. But there are a lot of schools in California, let alone the US, so who knows where we'll end up. Murasakibaracchi's still waffling on whether or not he's going to play after high school. You have any insight on that?"

"They were very unpleasant people." He blows out a huff at that memory.

"Though it was exhilarating to play with both Kagami-kun and Aomine-kun on the same team," and he is allowing himself a little smile here, "I think they are best suited to challenge and bring out their best against each other. In contrast, for Murasakibara-kun, I think he loves the sport enough, but he would need someone by his side. Perhaps he'll follow wherever Himuro-san goes."

"I don't know where he went. I guess I'll find out sooner or later." Himuro had been cool, but they never really clicked, lack of interaction mostly. He had wanted to give the older boy his agent's card because he was pretty. A more delicate beauty compared to Kise's boyish charm. If he had wanted model work, he would have gotten it easy.

"It'd probably be better for everyone's sanity, now that I'm thinking about it. They'd challenge each other all the time; it'd be a pain in the ass to deal with it all the time."

"I believe Kagami-kun might've mentioned that Himuro-san is taking a gap year, so he may join you all in the States."

He nibbles off the last of his treat and nods. "You certainly don't want them to fight over who should've received a pass. I've heard that argument too many times as is."

"That'd be fun. Maybe I can finally give him my agent's card. She's been hounding me about him ever since you went up against him back in our first year."

Kise's licked off the top by now, and is working on the middle. "Hmm. Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see."

"Himuro-san is rather unfairly attractive, he would probably be very popular in your industry."

Kuroko flips over the stick and is greeted with a 'winner' stamped onto it, but doesn't look surprised at all.

"I know! I bet he doesn't do half the stuff I do to keep looking good! I'm jealous!"

He doesn't know that, but he's willing to bet. The really pretty boys tend to be natural.

He looked over. "You always win. What's the prize anyway?"

"A crime against your 10-step skincare routine, I'm sure."

Kuroko was definitely the type that made do with only bar soap.

"You trade it in for a free popsicle." He holds it up. "Want more?"

"Excuse me; it's only three steps during the week, and seven-step one once a week. And a monthly spa day if I can manage it. We make it a family trip."

All five of them.

"No, I'm good," he said. "I have to watch how many sweets I eat."

"Seems excessive... but making it a family day does sound fun."

He has no such limitations and gestures in a way that indicates he'll be back shortly as he pops back into the konbini to redeem his prize. He returns with the regular soda flavor, a bite already taken out of the corner.

"Mihoshi-nee and I take the most advantage of it. Sometimes mom does too. Saoko doesn't care for it much, but she understands beauty is power. And dad likes the massages."

Kise's almost done with his by the time Kuroko comes back.

"What flavor you get this time?"

"Soda. I enjoy trying the seasonal flavors, but I think I like the original the most."

He is a very simple boy.

"Perhaps I'll suggest a spa day to my family for Golden Week."

That he is.

"Your mother and grandmother will like it, I promise!" Kise said. "Don't know about you and your father though."

Which reminded him. "Oh, hey, did you check out the university dad told you about?"

"I'm sure we'll find it relaxing." Even he needed to turn off his brain sometimes and this would be a good excuse.

"I haven't yet had time yet, since it's been so busy with the start of the new school year... but soon, hopefully." He is eager to get an idea of university's atmosphere.

Kise was just about vibrating with excitement. "I've been invited to visit Houston!" he said. "It's not my top pick, and Texas seems kinda 'eh' to me but it's a step in the right direction."

He looks just as excited for him, eyes sparkling a bit. "Do you think you'd be going during games? I'd be very envious if you could see the Spurs..."

He shook his head. "No, we'll be going during the summer, so it doesn't interfere with school. But I wish. Has Kagamicchi mentioned anything?"

"That's a shame... but during summer vacation would be best. As for Kagami-kun I believe Alex-san is doing their best to stir up interest from various schools, but since she's an alumni of UCLA, I'm sure she'll have more sway there."

"Yeah, that's what dad thought. He'll be taking me. Mom'll try, but it depends on work."

He had no idea Alex went to UCLA, so he perks up. "I'm hoping to get more invites, and dad and I can knock them all out during the summer, but it's a waiting game at the moment."

And he's not the best at waiting. Not as bad as Aominecchi, though!

"I'm sure Kagami-kun has mentioned your interest in attending UCLA to her as well. Perhaps you'll hear from them soon. They would be remiss to pass on a player like you."

He hums around the popsicle, opting to suckle on it for now. "A roadtrip around America sounds fun, though. Just like the movies."
