Unrequited Love?

Kaijou and Seirin had just had their first practice match, which was shaping up to be a tradition of sorts. This time, Kaijou had gone to Seirin. The gym was nice, newer then Kaijou's but maybe not as big. 

 

He was breathing heavily, but smiling broadly. It always felt good to play, even if it was just a practice match and they weren't going all out. After all, he wanted to keep some of his new tricks up his sleeves, just like he was sure Kagami and Kuroko were hiding some of their new tricks too. This year's match had ended in a draw. Better than last year's practice match, which had ended in Kaijou's loss by two points.  

 

Just thinking about Kuroko made Kise look over to the Seirin team, focusing in on the smaller boy. 

 

For awhile now Kise had realized that he had feelings for Kuroko. Kise had looked up to Kuroko for awhile, but it wasn't really until after the Winter Cup that Kise realized he was probably in love with Kuroko. 

 

He took a towel that one of the first years offered him. "Thanks," he said absently. He scrubbed at his face, his thoughts racing. He had been thinking about Kuroko a lot lately, and seeing him only brought those thoughts back to the surface, only pushed aside when the game had begun. Now with the game over he couldn't focus. The warm glow in his chest that came whenever he thought about Kuroko was back with a vengeance.

 

The Kaijou team was gathering their things and getting ready to board the bus. He told the first year that he'd be along in a bit and began to head over to the Seirin team. 

 

"Kurokocchi~" he called out. No time like the present, he thought. He didn't know if Kuroko would return his feelings, but he was hopeful. The time Kuroko had cheered him on while he went up against Haizaki stood out in his mind. 

 

"Kurokocchi! You got a minute?"

Well, it's not like Kuroko would be able to eat more than the two onigiri he has.

Akashicchi's life is something else. I'm surprised he was able to stand eating the food at Teiko!

But he's always had simpler tastes than most rich people.

The rest of the day is spent low key, watching movies in the Akashi's home theatre. He doesn't send much in the way of texting until the afternoon.

Ohio State showed interest in me! They're known for their American football more than basketball. Also University of Kentucky!

Congratulations - I'm sure they'll all start flooding in soon and you'll have a very busy summer.

OSU's athletics are pretty good all around. Columbus is also really gay-friendly and has a big Asian community. It's not California, but it's kinda like Tokyo. Akashicchi says it's on the same latitude as Akita.

If you end up there, you'll need to invest a really good winter coat.

UCLA is still my first choice, but OSU might just be my second choice.

I have a coat that's good.

California does seem more interesting...

And it's closer to home.

Though, really, it wouldn't make that much of a difference, being in a different country. I should ask Kagamicchi more about it.

[Only now is he starting to feel some nervousness about living in a different country for school.]

I suppose the most important thing might be the "vibe" of the city the school is in. You're a very resourceful person, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Kuroko believes in his very capable friends.

Sometimes his friends have doubts.

Well, maybe not the rest of the Miracles, but Kise has doubts sometimes.

I hope you're right. I'm a little nervous now that it's actually happening. Not enough not to go through with it, though! I'm totally going to do it.

I would be sad to hear if you decided not to go through with it.

Seeing you talk with so much excitement about chasing your dreams gave me a bit more courage to pursue my own interests.

Good. I expect to read all about your exploits in college basketball. It'll be a good incentive for me to practice English.

About half an hour later, Kuroko gets a picture of Akashi asleep on Kise's shoulder.

Akashicchi finally getting some rest. Isn't he cute like this?

Yes, extremely cute.

He has not forgotten Akashi's slight against him from a couple days ago!

I'm sure he really needs it. Make sure you're getting enough rest too.

There were no slights to be had! Just Kurokocchi being stubborn.

Unlike you, he can take a compliment =P

I am. Today we've just been watching movies and cuddling. Mostly me dropping myself on him, but he got a hug in too. I think he's a bit touch-starved now that his Kings have graduated. He's more open to casual touch now than he was at Teikou.

He refuses to be acknowledged as cute! And will just ignore the first bit.

We were always equally divided in terms of casual touch at Teikou, weren't we? Kise, Aomine, Momoi and Murasakibara were the most amenable to it. Kuroko himself mostly tolerated it from others, but rarely initiated.

The Kings did always seem very friendly, Kiyoshi-senpai included.

Except for Hanamiya. He wasn't popular with Akashicchi's kings either, with Reo having a particular dislike for him.

Hayama was very touchy. Like a really friendly cat.

If possible, I prefer not to include Hanamiya-san within that grouping. It's a nice group otherwise.

That does suit him. In that line of thinking, you're like a dog.

I never met him, but both you and Reo speak awfully of him, so I have to take your word for it.

You know, I often thought of myself as a puppy with a bunch of kittens while at Teikou. Some were more friendly than others.

I feel like I should be offended by that, but if I think about it, I did grow up with cats.

Kurokocchi is a sneaky cat. Midorimacchi is a haughty one. Aominecchi is a tomcat on the prowl.

Murasakibaracchi is a Maine Coon. One that always acts like he needs to be fed despite already having had dinner.

Akashicchi is a princely one.

Akashi-kun seems like he'd be a Siamese cat.
