Unrequited Love?

Kaijou and Seirin had just had their first practice match, which was shaping up to be a tradition of sorts. This time, Kaijou had gone to Seirin. The gym was nice, newer then Kaijou's but maybe not as big. 

 

He was breathing heavily, but smiling broadly. It always felt good to play, even if it was just a practice match and they weren't going all out. After all, he wanted to keep some of his new tricks up his sleeves, just like he was sure Kagami and Kuroko were hiding some of their new tricks too. This year's match had ended in a draw. Better than last year's practice match, which had ended in Kaijou's loss by two points.  

 

Just thinking about Kuroko made Kise look over to the Seirin team, focusing in on the smaller boy. 

 

For awhile now Kise had realized that he had feelings for Kuroko. Kise had looked up to Kuroko for awhile, but it wasn't really until after the Winter Cup that Kise realized he was probably in love with Kuroko. 

 

He took a towel that one of the first years offered him. "Thanks," he said absently. He scrubbed at his face, his thoughts racing. He had been thinking about Kuroko a lot lately, and seeing him only brought those thoughts back to the surface, only pushed aside when the game had begun. Now with the game over he couldn't focus. The warm glow in his chest that came whenever he thought about Kuroko was back with a vengeance.

 

The Kaijou team was gathering their things and getting ready to board the bus. He told the first year that he'd be along in a bit and began to head over to the Seirin team. 

 

"Kurokocchi~" he called out. No time like the present, he thought. He didn't know if Kuroko would return his feelings, but he was hopeful. The time Kuroko had cheered him on while he went up against Haizaki stood out in his mind. 

 

"Kurokocchi! You got a minute?"

Akashi's birthday as in winter, so perhaps this is his wintery side manifesting.

Nigou is a team dog, after all - he enjoys spending time with everyone. But I think I'll formally adopt him when we graduate.

He seems fond of the color white too. It's a nice contrast with his cherry-red hair.

Oh? Huh. I thought he was yours since he's basically your son.

A few hours later.

I fell off the horse the first time I tried to climb on. =(

But I managed to figure it out. Took me longer than it usually does. Akashicchi said it was because Shirogane was just really excited to go out.

Did you only think that because he's named after me?

He is a little amused at the idea that Kise didn't take immediately to it.

I hope you don't bruise too much from the fall. Perhaps Shirogane wanted to impress you.

Yes. I thought you named him.

So is he, but even his ability to learn by observing has limits. If his body can't do it, like some gymnastics, then he can't do it. And apparently, this includes things that involve riding animals.

I think I have a bruise on my butt. Akashicchi's making fun of me for it =( but he also promised to kiss it later. So =P

Koganei-senpai was the one who named Nigou, actually. Though, I did find him, so I feel a little responsible for him.

Also, TMI, Kise-kun.

huh. Didn't know that.

=P He actually won't. We're taking our time with sex, much to Aonimecchi's annoyance, I think he's trying to live vicariously through me since he's still single. Though, while Akashicchi can't tell jokes, he IS capable of some double entendre that makes me do some double takes.

We're having a picnic dinner now.

I always did think Akashi-kun had more of a sense of humor than I did. And Aomine-kun only has himself to blame for absolutely no progress on his front.

You're living out a Regency romance novel.

You can make jokes, even if your humor is very dry.

He does! He just needs to grow a pair and ask Kagamicchi out!

As most of my reading is shounen jump, I'll have to take your word for it.

None of my jokes ever seem to land...

One would think this would be a good time to do it, seeing as we don't have school or practice.....

Why are both of his lights so dumb.

Kise doesn't respond until the next morning.

It might be better that they hold off. Aominecchi's so horny all the time it'd probably he torture for him if they go to different schools. Kagamicchi doesn't strike me as someone with Aomine's libidio.

After that, he sends Kuroko a picture of his breakfast, a very fancy, very Japanese breakfast.

I suppose so. But I'm starting to pity them.

What a lavish meal.

He sends a picture of his own, which are only two onigiri arranged on a small plate.

Well, it's not like Kuroko would be able to eat more than the two onigiri he has.

Akashicchi's life is something else. I'm surprised he was able to stand eating the food at Teiko!

But he's always had simpler tastes than most rich people.

The rest of the day is spent low key, watching movies in the Akashi's home theatre. He doesn't send much in the way of texting until the afternoon.

Ohio State showed interest in me! They're known for their American football more than basketball. Also University of Kentucky!

Congratulations - I'm sure they'll all start flooding in soon and you'll have a very busy summer.

OSU's athletics are pretty good all around. Columbus is also really gay-friendly and has a big Asian community. It's not California, but it's kinda like Tokyo. Akashicchi says it's on the same latitude as Akita.

If you end up there, you'll need to invest a really good winter coat.

UCLA is still my first choice, but OSU might just be my second choice.

I have a coat that's good.

California does seem more interesting...

And it's closer to home.

Though, really, it wouldn't make that much of a difference, being in a different country. I should ask Kagamicchi more about it.

[Only now is he starting to feel some nervousness about living in a different country for school.]

I suppose the most important thing might be the "vibe" of the city the school is in. You're a very resourceful person, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Kuroko believes in his very capable friends.

Sometimes his friends have doubts.

Well, maybe not the rest of the Miracles, but Kise has doubts sometimes.

I hope you're right. I'm a little nervous now that it's actually happening. Not enough not to go through with it, though! I'm totally going to do it.

I would be sad to hear if you decided not to go through with it.

Seeing you talk with so much excitement about chasing your dreams gave me a bit more courage to pursue my own interests.
