Unrequited Love?

Kaijou and Seirin had just had their first practice match, which was shaping up to be a tradition of sorts. This time, Kaijou had gone to Seirin. The gym was nice, newer then Kaijou's but maybe not as big. 

 

He was breathing heavily, but smiling broadly. It always felt good to play, even if it was just a practice match and they weren't going all out. After all, he wanted to keep some of his new tricks up his sleeves, just like he was sure Kagami and Kuroko were hiding some of their new tricks too. This year's match had ended in a draw. Better than last year's practice match, which had ended in Kaijou's loss by two points.  

 

Just thinking about Kuroko made Kise look over to the Seirin team, focusing in on the smaller boy. 

 

For awhile now Kise had realized that he had feelings for Kuroko. Kise had looked up to Kuroko for awhile, but it wasn't really until after the Winter Cup that Kise realized he was probably in love with Kuroko. 

 

He took a towel that one of the first years offered him. "Thanks," he said absently. He scrubbed at his face, his thoughts racing. He had been thinking about Kuroko a lot lately, and seeing him only brought those thoughts back to the surface, only pushed aside when the game had begun. Now with the game over he couldn't focus. The warm glow in his chest that came whenever he thought about Kuroko was back with a vengeance.

 

The Kaijou team was gathering their things and getting ready to board the bus. He told the first year that he'd be along in a bit and began to head over to the Seirin team. 

 

"Kurokocchi~" he called out. No time like the present, he thought. He didn't know if Kuroko would return his feelings, but he was hopeful. The time Kuroko had cheered him on while he went up against Haizaki stood out in his mind. 

 

"Kurokocchi! You got a minute?"

Soon, Golden Week was upon them, and Kise headed down to Kyoto to spend the weekend with Akashi. He's excited and nervous. They've mostly done the long distance thing. And since they were mostly using each other for various reasons, Akashi to defy his father, Kise to get over Kuroko, they made it work. They enjoyed each other's company, and Kise would be lying if he said he didn't like kissing the other boy.

They were fond of each other. Their relationship had deepened because this. And they were openly calling each other boyfriends. It was nice. Really nice.

Kuroko has been quietly enjoying his own break all the way down in Ehime, idling away his time with his head buried in books when not out with family. He is a little surprised when he sees the text from Kise - he expected he'd be too busy.

That's a very nice yukata.

Tell Akashi-kun I said hello and that he looks very handsome.

Akashicchi says hi back! We just got out of a geisha show, so we're taking a break from walking before we get something to eat. How are things with you?

He takes a moment to admire Kise and is annoyed with himself for it.

The color looks good on you, as usual.

I've already finished reading 3 books, so it's been very productive.

Kuroko does not send an image of himself, as it's not interesting at all, but instead of the scenery around him, the sea sparkling and wide.

Kise would have liked a picture of Kuroko enjoying himself. He had hoped that if he told Kuroko that he was handsome enough times, he'd believe it, but after a year of doing so, it had proven fruitless.

Ooh! Pretty! I haven't been to a beach to relax in a long time.



It's so crowded here! Akashicchi and I just blend in. Well, he does. I'm still taller than 90% of the people here =P

An hour later, he sends a picture of the two of them with a geisha, all three smiling at the camera. The Geisha and Akashi have soft smiles, while Kise is beaming. It's followed by a picture of Akashi and the Geisha playing Shogi.

We made friends with a Geisha! This is Kaneha! They played Shogi for a long time (she gave him his first defeat!!)

Kuroko is definitely not one to enjoy selfies or solo photos too much, but is more willing for group photos, if only for the memories.

I didn't think it was possible for Akashi-kun to lose at shogi. Send him my condolences. :o

Well, Kaneha-san is older than us. She's not as old as my parents, but she's older than Mihoshi-nee by maybe ten years. So she has more experience!!

He sends another picture. This time it's Akashi, pouting ever so slightly after his first defeat in Shogi in years. It's adorable, really.

He said thank you, and that he's he was defeated a few times when he first began to play, but it's been YEARS. I mean, how many times as Midorimacchi tried to beat him?

He laughs a bit at the picture. Akashi pouting is a rare sight indeed.

I was certain Akashi-kun was almost pro-level. I suppose talent can be hiding in the unexpected places, but a geisha being so good at it makes sense.

He almost is! It takes a backseat to basketball. He said he's planning on pursuing it after high school.

But you know what they say; there's always someone better.

Yeah, the geisha are very good at keeping our culture alive. She's hinted she competes professionally when she's not doing Geisha work.

Sounds like she's trying to steal my man!! >| !! lmao

Kise sends some more pictures of Kaneha and Akashi playing. Then there's radio silence for an hour.

He's said before his type is an elegant person and geisha are the definition of elegance. If he weren't gay, I'd say to watch out. :)

Condolences and congratulations in equal measures to taste so much defeat in one day.

oh no!!! He's bi!! (though with pref for boys, can you blame him tho? He hit puberty around ~us~ and we're a very not-straight, very attractive bunch.

He's only pouting a little still, but he's mostly being a good sport. I think he's found a rival in Kaneha-san

Then there's a picture of a Kaneha preparing them tea and a few other guests. Behind her is a Meiko greeting other guests.

We got invited to her tea ceremony for free (sh, don't tell anyone!) so it all works out.

Oh, my apologies. I suppose, objectively, all the Miracles were rather attractive.

He is not counting himself in that.

That's very generous of her - though, I imagine Akashi-kun could afford it.

Kise is aware and is annoyed. But as he didn't explicitly leave himself out, he can't call him out.

Well, he is out of punching range.

We do cover the basics; Midorimacchi and Akashicchi are classically handsome. Momoicchi and I are the pinnacle of feminine and masculine beauty. Aominecchi and Murasakibaracchi are wild and rugged. And Kurokocchi is the cutest of us!

Oh yes, he could, and he's going to leave a donation as a thank you. I think that's how that works? I'm not sure.

That's cheating, Kise.

A donation is a good idea.

All is fair when trying to build up your friend's confidence! Especially when he believes it 100%

Akashi is also interested in making sure Kuroko has a healthy opinion of himself.

He is now also sending a scolding text to Akashi to not back up Kise!!

Kise doesn't respond for another few hours, as he and Akashi are busy enjoying the tea ceremony and then find other activities to do.

Then it comes to dinner time, and Kise sends a picture of his food; they're having hot pot.

Golden Week food tastes better for some reason.

Kuroko will remember this betrayal!

It's probably because you're on vacation. It looks good.

He responds with a picture of his own dinner.



I have a feeling I'll be tired of seafood by the end of my trip.

Yeah, you probably will. Too bad it makes up a lot of Japanese cuisine =P

After that, it's radio silence from him as he and Akashi continue their day together.

It's especially hard when my grandmother is very excited about her hometown local specialties.

He can't say no to her...

In the morning, at much-too-early-for-vacation 9AM, Kuroko sends this image.

Kise sleeps through the first notification. It's about eleven when he responds

Aw! They're so cute! I bet they were begging for food.

What are you doing up so early?

The ferry departs at 8AM. I'm very sleepy.

The next picture he sends is of him dozing on the steps of a shrine, surrounded by cats, a couple loafing on his lap and one perched on his shoulder.
